Being a mompreneur is no easy feat. It takes dedication, perseverance, and a whole lot of balancing skills to run a business while also being a mom. Today, we’re speaking to the owner of The Buckhead Massage Company who is also a mompreneur. She shares with us her background, challenges, advice, and proudest moments.
Firstly, can you tell us about your background and how you became a mompreneur?
“I worked in the business when it came up for sale so I bought it. I had been working as a therapist in the business for a while, and when the opportunity arose to buy it, I took it. I had always wanted to own my own business, so it was a dream come true for me. Being a mom was an added challenge, but it was something I was willing to take on.”
How do you manage to balance running a business with being a mom?
“Prioritizing! I take care of the most important things first and the things that can wait, well, I let them wait (at work and at home). I also have a lot of support from my husband, family, and friends, which makes a huge difference. We have a schedule that we stick to, and everyone knows what they need to do and when. It’s not always easy, but it works for us.”
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a mompreneur and how have you overcome them?
“The biggest challenge is trying to be there for everyone all the time. I had to accept that it is okay to ask for help. People are very willing to help, you literally just have to ask. I also had to learn how to delegate tasks and trust others to get things done. It’s not always easy, but it’s necessary if you want to run a successful business while also being a present mom.”
How do you approach managing your time and setting priorities for your business and family?
“I try to set certain days for certain tasks so that there is somewhat of a structure. It doesn’t always work out perfectly, but that’s part of being a business owner. I also make sure to schedule in time for my family, whether it’s a family dinner or a weekend activity. It’s important to have that balance.”
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals as a mompreneur?
“I reward myself regularly. I take a moment to either stroll through a store even if it’s just for 20 minutes, buy myself something or if I have a little more time, I get a massage. It’s important to take care of yourself and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. I also have a great support system in my family and friends, and they help keep me motivated and focused.”
Can you share with us any advice you have for other moms who are interested in starting their own business?
“Owning a business is not a 9-5 job. You are going to take your work home, you will take it to bed with you and you will wake up with it. You really have to love what you do if you want to enjoy the ride! My advice would be to have a solid support system in place and to ask for help when you need it. Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks and trust others to get things done. And most importantly, take care of yourself!”
What sets your business apart from others in your industry?
“Our clients love that our business is privately owned and that we’re passionate about what we do. There are not many places like ours where therapists are allowed to express themselves professionally. We also pride ourselves on providing a personalized experience for our clients. We take the time to get to know our clients and their needs, and we tailor our services to meet those needs.”
What has been your proudest moment as a mompreneur?
“When our staff tells me how much they love working in our business. I loved working here when I was a therapist, it was my peaceful place, and it makes me happy that our staff feels the same way. Seeing our clients happy and satisfied with our services is also a proud moment for me. It’s what makes all the hard work worth it.”
In conclusion, being a mompreneur is no easy feat, but with dedication, perseverance, and a solid support system, it can be a rewarding experience. We hope that her story has inspired other moms who are interested in starting their own business to take that leap of faith and pursue their dreams.
